Hubble Space Telescope
The Hubble space telescope (HST) launched on 24th April in 1990. It launched by European Space Agency and NASA for collecting the pictures of galaxies, incredible photos of supernovas, nebulas and others extraterrestrial objects. Initially this telescope was launched with a less powerful mirror which could observe only closer astronomical objects. The total budget of this mission was about 1.5 billion USD but after the first repair mission of Hubble space telescope in 1993 it's estimated value become 2.87 billion USD. Today Hubble space telescope is the most powerful telescope in the world and it situated in the lower orbit of the earth. The Hubble telescope's orbital speed is about 547 km/hr around the earth.

History Of The Hubble Space Telescope
At first Gallelio galleli used a spyglass to see towards the sky in 1610. Then he adjusted a spyglass with a pipe and started the exploring above the sky. By this spyglass pipe Gallelio galleli discovered the ring of Saturn, Jupiter planet and more stars. When he was using the spyglass pipe he observed the earth's atmosphere was blocking too much light which create difficulties to saw the universal objects. So he decided to placed this spyglass telescope at the peak of Mountain because top of the mountain's atmosphere is thin which is reducing the obstacles of reaching light into the spyglass.



After three centuries a German scientist "Hermann Oberth" first suggested that telescope could be placed into earth's orbit because there was no atmosphere which would be easier to saw any astronomical objects without any obstacles. In 1975 the ESA and NASA space agency have planned for the large space telescope mission. In 1977 USA Congress party approved the funding for this mission. This large space telescope mission launched by "space shuttle discovery" launch vehicle and this rocket made by NASA. This large space telescope was renamed into the Hubble space telescope, to honour the great astronomer Edwin Hubbles.

Observatory Instruments Of Hubble Space Telescope
When Hubble space telescope launched it adjusted with the wide field planetary camera, the faint object spectrograph, the faint object camera, the goddard high resolution spectrograph and with the high speed photometer. The Hubble space telescope's first  repair mission 1993 have completed by seven crew members in five days. In this first repair mission NASA attached two new wide-field planetary camera which help to captured the better photos of the universe.


Hubble Space Telescope Discoveries
  • The first image captured from Hubble space telescope have taken with the wide field and planetary camera on 20th May in 1990. The quality of the first image of Hubble space telescope was 50 times better than the ground telescope's captured photos.
  • In 1991 Hubble space telescope have captured the Jupiter planet's great red spot.
  • In 1992 Hubble space telescope observed a disc like material have been pulled into a suspected black hole towards the core of NGC 4261 at that time black hole was a theory but after it proved in 2019.
  • In 1993 Hubble space telescope discovered the M81 galaxy which distance is about 11 million light years far away from earth.
  • In 1994 Hubble telescope confirmed the star "Eta Carinae" with two wide-field planetary camera. The "Eta Carinae" star is 4 millions times brighter than the sun and also 150 times massive than the sun. This star is possessing 10,000 light years far away from the earth.
  • In 1995 the HST captured the image of Eagle Nebula (M16) and also it confirmed oxygen is available in the atmosphere of the Jupiter's moon "Europa".

  • In 1996 Hubble telescope revealed the structure of the Pluto's surface. From this photo scientist have confirmed Pluto's surface is filled with craters.
  • In 1999 the HST released the image of the ring-Nebula which almost end up and it's ring have produced by a dying star.
  • In 2001 the Hubble space telescope have discovered the "Protoplanetary disks" which located in the "Orion Nebula". The Orion Nebula situated about 1500 light years away from the earth.
  • In 2005 Hubble telescope discovered the two dusty rings which is orbiting around the Neptune planet.
  • In 2014 the HST revealed the breakdown of asteroid P-2013-R3 which breakdown into 10 smaller pieces.
  • In 2015 the Hubble space telescope captured the image of Andromeda galaxy.
  • In 2019 astronomers have detected the water vapour on K2-18B planet which is orbiting around a red dwarf star. K2-18B is possessing about 110 light years away from the earth.
Light Years: The distance that light travel in one year is called light years, one light years is equivalent to 9.5 trillion km.

  1. Total 5 repairing mission have sent to the Hubble space telescope, the first repair mission launched in 1993 and last one in 2009.
  2. After 2009 repairing mission scientist didn't sent any mission for Hubble space telescope because NASA will launch the new space telescope in 2020 which named is James Nebb Space Telescope.
  3. The Hubble space telescope is orbiting around the earth above 568 km.
  4. Hubble telescope have sent 18-20 gigabytes data to the NASA and ESA in every day. The collection of pictures and data stored in magneto-optical disks.
  5. The Hubble telescope's weight is about 11 tones, length is 13.2 meters and diameter is 4.2 meter.
  6. The Hubble space telescope is operated by solar energy, it adjusted with two 25 feet solar panels which produced 2800 watts.
